Matthew and Rebecca’s love story, that led to their marriage in our Barn in a mid-afternoon ceremony on Saturday 28th May, began when they became childhood sweethearts: Matthew proposed to Rebecca after eleven years together, during a holiday in Rome. Their wedding, amidst a beautiful woodland styling provided by our sister company Beautiful Venue Decor Limited, was attended by seventy of their closest friends and family members, with fun-filled evening celebrations for 100.
“We wanted a rustic barn wedding, a more outdoorsy natural feel. Elsham Hall is set in beautiful gardens and was exactly what we were looking for. The added bonus of a wedding coordinator and full venue decor helped us with our decision too.” – Rebecca
Rebecca was every part the beautiful bride in “a unique dress, not the usual lace. It was hand embroidered with individual flowers and was ivory and pewter in colour” with “a long veil that was also embroidered with flowers at the sides.”
“It was beautiful and I absolutely love it.” – Rebecca
Louise (Rebecca’s sister) and Hollie and Lauren (two of the bride’s oldest friends) wore beautiful floaty, mid-length sage green dresses; their loosely curled hair was embellished with ivy to tie in with the woodland feel – “greenery and foliage was our main theme”. Matthew and his best man Chris, meanwhile, wore navy suits with bronze ties and handkerchiefs with their brown shoes; Matthew’s waistcoat was a blue tartan, whilst Chris’s was a plain navy blue. Their adorable page boy Jim wore a navy blue bow tie and braces with his beige trousers and white shirt.
After their ceremony, the bride, groom and their guests were greeted with celebratory reception drinks of Pimms, sparkling white wine and bottled beers. The photographer gathered the guests to capture precious memories of the special day, whilst they explored, relaxed and mingled in the Garden Room, Courtyard and country gardens.
At 4:45pm the guests were seated in the Barn for the evening wedding breakfast. The new Mr and Mrs were announced in to the applause of their upstanding guests, after which the father of the bride, groom and best man made congratulatory speeches and proposed celebratory toasts, raising glasses of sparkling wine. The wedding party were then served an anti-pasti starter, followed by a daube of beef or muscat chicken main course and chocolate brownies for dessert. After their wedding breakfast, the guests gathered in the Garden Room to relax with cups of tea and coffee whilst our team transformed the Barn for their evening celebrations.
As the music began and the evening guests arrived, Matthew and Rebecca’s friends and family regrouped in the Barn to watch the newlyweds cut their beautiful naked cake, with tiers of victoria sponge, carrot and lemon with fresh berries. A first dance to the Lumineers’ ‘Hey Ho’ was followed by the father-daughter dance to ‘My Girl’ by the Temptations. ‘Give me your love’ by Sigala ft. John Newman and Nile Rogers coaxed the rest of the guests onto the dancefloor; as the wedding guests danced the night away, hot pork sandwiches with stuffing were served to keep their hunger at bay, whilst our fully stocked bar kept their drinks flowing until the clock struck midnight.
Since their wedding day Matthew and Rebecca have visited Sorrento in Italy on their honeymoon; whilst there they hired a car and drove back to Rome to relive their engagement. Looking back on their wedding planning journey, Matthew and Rebecca’s top tips for future couples are: “Relax and enjoy the process. Savour every second – it goes by so quick. Try to take in every moment of the day. I wish we could do it all over again.”
“The whole day was fantastic” – Rebecca
