Wednesday 22nd July brought Joseph, Adriana and their closest friends and family from around the world to Elsham Hall for their intimate marriage celebrations. Joseph and Adriana’s love story began ten years ago when they met in French class. Their friendship developed for five years before blossoming into the love that caused Joseph to propose, in September 2013, whilst paragliding on holiday.
“As we landed there was a man on the beach taking photographs of our paragliding experience, little did I know the reason why! As we landed and got unhooked from everything he got down on one knee, pulled a ring box out of his pocket… and asked me to marry him. I literally BURST into tears and UGLY CRIED whilst saying yes. The photograph caught the entire moment. It was perfect… Joe had clearly been stalking my Pinterest as he went to our jewellers and he designed the ring himself to combine all the things I loved’ – Adriana
Their wedding day was wonderfully tailored to their individual love story: personalised ceremony readings shared tales of their youth whilst the bride’s stunning wooden artwork throughout the venue added touches of individuality to their décor choices.
“Joe and I both live in Huddersfield but met in Lincolnshire and grew up there, we knew we just wanted to get married where our hearts first met… As soon as I walked in I pictured myself walking down the aisle and my creative juices started flowing with everything that I could make!” – Adriana
Adriana used her creative skills to fashion stunning wooden engagement rings for the garden room tables, hearts emblazoned with their initials for their cake and wedding breakfast tables, a bespoke guestbook, table plan tags, menus and charming wooden lovebirds to sit throughout the venue and perch atop their beautiful ‘naked’ cake: “We enlisted a family friend to make it and oh my goodness she outdid herself!!! We just wish we got to try some… we were too busy dancing” (Adriana). These matched the invitations that Adriana had engraved by hand over four months (“each invite took 35 minutes to engrave”!). On top of all her laser cutting, Adriana made personalised gifts for the bridal party, including handkerchiefs with individually personalised messages.
Her bridesmaids – Adriana’s sister, two cousins and Joe’s sister – wore simple, flowing mint summer gowns. Adriana embroidered belts for each of their bridesmaid dresses, bags to store their wedding day essentials and robes to wear whilst they were getting ready. Joe’s best man and grooms-man were his brother and brother in law. They wore mohair grey tails with ivory waistcoats and mint ties; Joe and Adriana gifted them with wedding day survival kits, apple crates filled with two bottles of whisky, engraved flasks, personalised socks and a pair of sunglasses. The guests staying in the hotel were treated to individual door hangers, whilst Adriana’s father, who had travelled all the way from Australia, received a fishing lure engraved with ‘father of the bride’, the date, and Joe and Adriana’s names. Along with joke gifts, Adriana treated Joe to a watch engraved with their wedding date, whilst Joe, on the morning of their wedding, had champagne, strawberries and chocolate delivered to Adriana, along with beautiful wedding jewellery and perfume.
“These little gifts got everyone choked up on the day – good job they had the hankies in the end” – Adriana.
After their ceremony Joseph, Adriana and their guests enjoyed reception drinks, watermelon and a sweet cart in the sunshine whilst the photographers captured memories of the day.
At 3pm Joseph, Adriana and their guests tucked into a delicious three course meal after which the father of the bride, groom and best man made their speeches and toasted the bride and groom. Each wedding breakfast guest was treated to a favour of an adorable individual pots of jam made by Joe’s mother.
The best part of the day was: “Every single moment of it, but marrying my best friend: Joe and I had the best day ever, we haven’t smiled so much and been so loved than on our wedding day” – Adriana
After tea and coffee in the garden room the bride and groom kicked off their evening celebrations with their first dance, followed by a father-daughter dance. The bridal party enjoyed a BBQ in the courtyard and a disco in the Barn; a sparkler celebration provided a wonderful photo opportunity against the dusky, countryside evening backdrop.
Adriana’s advice for future brides is: “Prepare, plan, organise, lots of spreadsheets but make sure you have the wedding of YOUR dreams, no one else’s. And brides, have fun in your dress, who cares if someone stands on it… go wild!” Joe and Adriana honeymooned in Mauritius, a location that Joe kept secret until their wedding day!
“On our private drive after the ceremony Joe told me we were going to Mauritius for two weeks, I jumped for joy as all along he kept hinting at Skegness… Our honeymoon blew all expectations, we got upgraded to business class on the way there, we got treated like royalty and every wish was our command. We also planted a coconut tree, so we will go back in a few years and see it with coconuts on” – Adriana.
